Serra da Capivara National Park

Many of the numerous rock shelters in the Serra da Capivara National Park are decorated with cave paintings, some more than 25,000 years old. They are an outstanding testimony to one of the oldest human communities of South America.

History:
Serra de Capivara is a national park in the Northeast of Brazil. The area has many prehistoric paintings. Capivara mountain was densely populated in the pre-Columbian era.

History:
La Pedra Furada (pierced rock) is the best known archaeological site of the park. There are hundreds of ric paintings of 11.000 years ago. Excavations found charcoal dating even to 48.000 years ago.
