Roof of Cave 407, Sui Dynasty (581-618):
Longmen Grottoes (Dragon Gate Grottoes) are one of the best examples of Chinese Buddhist art. The caves house tens of thousands of statues of Buddha and his disciples. The images, often once painted, were carved in into caves excavated from the limestone cliffs if the Xiangshan and Longmenshan mountains.
The caves were excavated and carved over the period from 493 AD to 1127 AD.
