La Grand-Place in Brussels is a remarkably homogeneous body of public and private buildings, dating mainly from the late 17th century. The architecture provides a vivid illustration of the level of social and cultural life of the period in this important political and commercial centre.

The Grand-Place was the great market place of Brussels, from the 11th century until now. It is surrounded by guildhalls and oher amazing buildings.

Every two years in August an enormous flower carpet is set up on the Grand-Place. Almost a million begonias are set on the square to form beautiful patterns. The carpet measures 24 by 77 meters.

The first flower carpet was made in 1971.

On the left on this card you see the Brussels Town Hall. The oldest part was built in 1420.
